do you accept insurance?
our providers are currently in-network with Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross. we are also able to provide superbills for out-of-network (OON) services. many insurers can reimburse up to 50%-80% of session fees. check your OON benefits by calling the customer support line on the back of your insurance card to verify your eligibility.
-
what are your cash rates?
we work with many cash-paying clients at inkblot. the rate for individual sessions is $250. sliding scale rates may also be possible on a case-by-case basis. please contact us for more information about paying out-of-pocket.
-
how does virtual therapy work?
we use a HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform to safely connect with our virtual clients. sessions can be attended from the comfort of a client’s own home or work space, so long as they are in a safe, confidential, and private location. importantly, california law does require clients to be physically present in the state when telehealth services are rendered.
-
what is headway?
inkblot partners with a service called headway to help with scheduling, billing, and documenting client sessions. through headway, clients can also access informed consent, practice policies and procedures, appointment links and reminders, and invoices/superbills for OON services. finally, clients can also manage their appointment times and contact providers directly via headway when needed.
-
what if i need or already take medication?
some clients benefit from use of psychiatric support while participating in individual therapy. our psychologists partner with medical prescribers to coordinate treatment when medication may be helpful. we offer in-network prescriber referrals to help reduce costs and ensure access to support.
-
how long are sessions?
sessions are approximately 50-minutes long. clients who might benefit from additional support are able to schedule more than one weekly follow-up.
-
can you coordinate with my couple's therapist?
yes! one-on-one relational support is optimized when the individual and couple’s therapists can coordinate treatment. in order to do so, we first obtain the client’s informed consent and written authorization to release information to that provider.
-
how do you know when a therapist is a "good fit?"
great question! we suggest coming to your consult call with a few key questions in mind, and then asking yourself, "can i see myself having intimate conversations with this person?" therapy involves spending intentional time together and building a trusting relationship, so the potential for developing strong rapport is key.

what's an inkblot?
we thought you might ask! it’s an organic, abstract shape with meaning that’s purely subjective and open to interpretation. the most famous examples are the Rorschach inkblot tests, a type of projective assessment developed by Hermann Rorschach in the early 20th century. in his tests, subjects were shown a series of inkblot images and asked to describe what they saw. their responses were then analyzed to gain insight into the person's thoughts, feelings, and personality traits.
