frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
Inkblot is an entirely virtual practice, so we’ll be working together online.
Find a quiet, private, comfortable space, and you’ll be ready.
As long as you’re in California at the time of your appointment, we can work together!
How will I know if we’re a “good fit”?
Great question!
We suggest attending your initial consultation call with a few key questions in mind, Then, ask yourself, “Can I see myself having intimate and vulnerable conversations with this person?”
Therapy involves spending intentional time together and building a trusting/working relationship, so the potential for developing rapport is key. We also offer individualized referrals if our providers aren’t the right fit.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are approximately 50 minutes long.
If you need additional support, we can schedule sessions more frequently.
Can you coordinate with my couples therapist?
Yes! One-on-one relational support is optimized when the individual and couples therapists coordinate treatment.
To do that, we’ll obtain your informed consent and written authorization to release information to that provider.
Is virtual therapy safe and effective?
Absolutely! We use a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform to connect with our virtual clients safely and securely. So, your information will be completely protected in this online world.
And research shows that meeting online can be just as effective as meeting in person. Many even prefer it because they can participate in therapy from a space that feels more safe and familiar than an office.
Do you accept insurance?
Inkblot is an out-of-network private practice that’s unaffiliated with insurance carriers. So, we are a private-pay, cash-payment practice.
However, we can provide you with a “Superbill” to submit to your insurance carrier in the event that you have OUT-OF-NETWORK mental health benefits. MANY providers reimburse ~50-80% of the session cost.
Please verify your OUT-OF-NETWORK benefit eligibility by calling the customer support line on the back of your
What is SimplePractice?
It’s a service we partner with to help with scheduling, OON billing, and documenting client sessions.
Through SimplePractice, you’ll also have access to informed consent forms, practice policies and procedures, appointment links and reminders, and invoices/superbills for OON services.
Finally, you can use the SimplePractice portal to manage appointment times and contact your provider directly via an internal messaging service.
What’s an inkblot?
We thought you might ask!
An inkblot is an organic, abstract shape with meaning that’s purely subjective and open to interpretation. The most famous examples are the Rorschach inkblot tests, a type of projective assessment developed by Hermann Rorschach in the early 20th century.
In his tests, subjects were shown a series of inkblot images and asked to describe what they saw. Their responses were then coded and analyzed to gain insight into their thoughts, feelings, and personality.
How do I get started?
We offer a free 15-minute consultation prior to beginning therapy.
During the call, we’ll learn more about each other and discuss your specific needs and goals in treatment.
We’ll also get a sense of what it might be like to work together before determining how best to proceed.
Call (650) 240-4003 to schedule your free consultation.
What are your rates?
Individual sessions are $250.
Sliding-scale rates may also be possible on a case-by-case basis, depending upon your financial circumstances.
Please contact us for more information about paying out-of-pocket. We’re happy to help!
What if I need or already take medication?
Some clients benefit from psychiatric medication while participating in individual therapy.
Our psychologists partner with medical prescribers to coordinate treatment when additional support may be helpful.
